Mount Toubkal is not the only place in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains to go rock climbing and mountaineering, with other popular areas being the Todra Gorges and the Taghia and Ahansal Region, Or Oukaimden & Imlil Valley.

Toubkal mountains range is a mountain chain of basalts and granite rocks, most of the summits are over 3500m of altitude. The region provides an amazing terrain for rock climbers!

Rock climbing in Toubkal

Toubkal is also famous for its series of granite blocks that line the southern side of the valley. These paths offer classic rock routes that range from a few hundred meters to around 500m long.

On the northern side of the valley is the Aguelzim range which is rocky and steep. These reddish gneiss rock walls are at a lower altitude than 3000m and are also more accessible from Toubkal refuge via a series of trails that allow walking to these sites. The style of climbing found here are long & short multi-pitch routes, our team of rock climbing (Mustapha & Youssef…) has prepared many sites and restored all the equipment on August 2021.

The massifs of Morocco offer the possibility of making superb climbs and climbing in magnificent natural sites. We have selected two of them: Taghia and Todgha (or Todra).

Todgha Gorges climbing
The Todgha Gorges

It is the most famous climbing place in Morocco. Located in the Moroccan High Atlas 15 km from the centre of Tinghir, this spot has more than 350 lanes spread over 20 sectors. Many areas of rind, large slopes and adventure courses, with cliffs up to 300 m high are available to climbers. And everyone can do it. This spot is suitable for all levels, from beginner to experienced climber.

Although access to this site is a bit difficult, it is worth a visit. The Taghia Gorge is a world-famous climbing destination. The tracks can reach up to 500 meters of unevenness and all styles are present: from the technical slab in steep wall to the wedge crack through the cant. Limestone is also of excellent quality. The ideal time is between April and October. You can even take advantage of your visit to visit the famous Corkscrew and the canyons of Tadrarate and Akka N'Tazarte.

The Cliffs of Amtoudi Located in the village of Amtoudi in the Anti Atlas, the Cliffs of Amtoudi were equipped in 2012. You will have the choice between 4 sectors on 4 different cliffs. 13 routes are available, from 5b to 7b+. You can also take a tour of the region, including the palm grove surrounding the site or go for a swim at the springs, a 45-minute walk from Amtoudi.

Located in the High Atlas, the area is surrounded by small villages in addition to mountains of red granite, rising above a palm grove, which offers stunning views. Rocks of various shapes, a mixture of quartz and granite, facilitate climbing. The most of this region: the painted rocks of Tafraout located a few kilometers from Aguerd Oudad. Despite the paint that covers them, the rocks are not more difficult to climb than others given their granite nature. This curious and extraordinary phenomenon remains a unique and unique experience for the region.
